Cure a hook

Problem
Most hooks are caused by a closed club face, usually due to premature wrist rotation, sending the ball severely round from right to left (for a right-handed golfer - reverse for a left-hander).

Tip

  • Make sure your wrists are in the right position when the club strikes the ball – you can practice this with chipping to see the results more easily.
  • If you are still hooking when you try a full swing, then your hands, rather than your hips and legs, are probably leading the way on the downswing. Try practicing a very slow backswing, even stopping at the top, which will ensure your hips and legs lead on the downswing with the hands and arms following, until you can see and feel the difference.
